Robert E Cordrey

Robert E. Cordrey, age 71, of Metamora passed away Friday, June 30 2017 at Toledo Hospital. He was born April 7 1946 in Toledo to Richard and Jeanette (Schreder) Cordrey. A 1964 graduate of Rogers High School, he continued his education earning an engineering degree from the University of Toledo. He was a veteran of the US Army. His ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit led him to success from an early age, running around the streets of Reynolds Corners, to successfully starting a materials handling company, Innovative Handling, in Sylvania from 1980 until his retirement in 2002. Bob gave up retirement and re-entered the materials handling business with Advanced Metalfab & Conveyor and Taylor Material Handling & Conveyor in Toledo, both of which he owned and operated until his death. Bob also was a leader and advocate for persons with developmental disabilities, serving as president of both the Autism Society of NW Ohio and the Fulton County Board of MRDD. Bob was a man of many interests. He enjoyed buying, restoring and selling all kinds of classic cars from an early age. He also was an expert in boats, boat engines, motorcycles and snowmobiles – if it had an engine, he could fix it. For recreation, he enjoyed playing golf (especially with his Thursday night golf league), hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling across the UP. Preceded in death by his parents and son, Chance, he is survived by his wife of 49 and a half years Karen; daughter Jennifer (Mark) Puls; grandchildren Jacob and Kendall Puls; brothers Jack (Sharon) Schweibold and David (Mindy) Cordrey; and sister Barbara (Kent) Cordrey Rock. Visitation will be at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave, on Wednesday July 5 from 3-8 PM. A memorial luncheon will be held on Thursday July 6 at 11:30AM at Koelsch Farm Homestead, 2365 Co Rd S, Metamora, OH. Interment will be private.
