Robert Berning

Robert Berning, age 86, passed away at home on Wednesday, December 1, 2021. He was born in Toledo on April 25, 1935 to Norman and Amelia (Rothenbuhler) Berning. Graduate of Scott High School and The University of Toledo where he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity, he earned his master’s degree in physics from The University of Wisconsin. He taught physics and math at Adrian High School and later, Sylvania Northview High School where he coached varsity golf. Possessed of a great sense of humor, Bob was an avid golfer and basketball player. He also loved camping, boating, building, and traveling. With his first wife Marilou (Reynolds), he raised two daughters and enjoyed camping in their Winnebago. After her death, he married Kay (Barley) in 1982 and they loved to play golf and travel in the U.S., Caribbean, Europe, Asia, and Egypt. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, brother Richard, and sisters Gwen Mennitt and Carol Carver. He is survived by his wife Kay, daughters Laurie (Bert) LaForce and Lisa Berning (Art Jackson), grandchildren Jonathan Todd, Dr. Courtney Todd, Brittany (Cory) Steele, Brandon (Alex) Jackson, and his faithful dog, Shilo. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania, Toledo, OH 43623 on Monday, December 6 with a service at 12:00 p.m. The family would like to suggest memorials to The Ability Center of N.W.
