Robert Bob H. Bartell, 83, lifelong resident of Ottawa County, died Sunday, March 1, 2009, in Countryside Continuing Care, Fremont, Ohio. Bob was born June 26, 1925, in Graytown, Ohio, to Henry and Anna Arndt Bartel. On November 21, 1946, he married Lucille Henry in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor, Ohio. Bob was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oak Harbor. He worked the land all his life with farms in Benton and Salem Townships and was a member of the Ottawa County Farm Bureau for many years. He was a school bus driver for the Graytown school and also worked at Erie Ordnance Depot. Bob had many friends and loyal customers to whom he sold and delivered his hay and straw. He enjoyed steam engine shows and Sunday afternoon drives. After his retirement, Bob found no pleasure in sitting still. He continued to supervise the farming of his fields and spent hours tinkering on one project or another. He enjoyed making fire wood and ice fishing. Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lucille, daughters, Patricia William Brannon and Sandra Melvin Wegman, sons, Ray Shannon Bartell, and Philip Dolly Bartell. He is also survived by five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was the brother of Orville Bartell deceased and Willis Bartell of Mayfield Heights and uncle and great uncle to many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Hospice of Memorial Hospital and Countryside Continuing Care for their kindness. Friends and family may visit 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2009, in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Oak Harbor. A private service for the family will precede interment in Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes gifts to be made in Roberts memory to the 4-H clubs of Ottawa County or the Endowment Trust Fund at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church.
