Robert L. Anteau, 85, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away Thursday, May 27, 2010 in Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo. Bob was born January 18, 1925 in Monroe, MI to Joseph and Alma Anteau. Bob graduated from Monroe High School in 1942. After high school he served in the U.S. Navy, WWII, from 1943 to 1946. Bob was on the USS Drexler when it was sunk by two Japanese Kamikaze planes killing 158 of his fellow sailors. After the Navy, Bob attended and graduated from Michigan State University in 1950 with a BS degree in mechanical engineering. Bob married the love of his life, Ruth Clark, in 1949. Bob and Ruth lived in MI, PA, and NJ for the first 15 years of their marriage. They moved to Toledo in 1964 and made it their home. Bob was a self employed Manufacturers Representative for 20 years, prior to his retirement in 1985. He was a lifetime member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers and is a Past President of the Toledo Chapter. In retirement, Bob and Ruth enjoyed both sail and power boating. Bob also enjoyed playing golf. He is a lifetime member of River View Yacht Club. He and his wife also enjoyed attending his annual reunions of the survivors of the USS Drexler. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time with family and especially his two grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Ruth in January, 2008; sister, Janet; and brother, Donald. He is survived by his loving daughter, Barbara L. Maloy John of Lambertville, MI; granddaughter, Katherine L. McGraw Matt of Avon, OH; and grandson, William J. Maloy of Lambertville, MI. Visitation will be at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. Toledo, OH west of Corey Rd. on Monday, May 31, 2010 from 4-8:00pm. Funeral services will begin at 9:30am Tuesday, June 1, 2010 with prayers at the funeral home followed by a 10:00am funeral mass at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4100 Harvest Lane, Toledo, OH 43623. Interment will follow at Toledo memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, Christ the King Church, or the charity of the donors choice.
