Robert E. Aikman, 78, of Oak Harbor and formerly of Tipton, Iowa passed away at his residence on May 15, 2009. He was born on September 15, 1930 in Hamlin, Iowa to Floyd and Gladys Sweet Aikman. On March 19, 1954 in Rockford, IL he married Shirley Burroughs and she preceded him in death on September 11, 2004. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Robert loved hunting, fishing, NASCAR races, racing stock cars in Tipton, Iowa, and was a golden glove champion boxer. He was an active member of the Oak Harbor Conservation Club, John A. Fader American Legion Post #114 , Oak Harbor Pool League, N.R.A. Robert taught many grandchildren his love for hunting, fishing and shooting. Robert is survived by his children, Wendy James Baker of Tiffin, OH, Teresa Lawson of Saucier, Miss., Dale Aikman of Rocky Ridge, OH, Kim Bryan Hardy Sharples, Oak Harbor, Corey Shannon Aikman of Rocky Ridge, OH, brothers, Merle and Larry Aikman, both of Tipton, IA, sister, Sharon Rivera of Clarence, IA, 16 grandchildren, and numerous great-great grandchildren. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley of 50 years, brothers, Floyd and Roy, sister, Maggie, son Kelley Aikman, grandson, Barry Lawson Jr. and 1 infant granddaughter. Visitation will be conducted at from 2-8 p.m. Monday May 18, 2009 at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Oak Harbor. Funeral services will be Tuesday May 19, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will be Tipton Masonic Cemetery in Tipton, Iowa.
