Rita Estep Sutherland

Rita Estep Sutherland, 65, of Oak Harbor, OH, passed away, Friday, January 15, 2016 at her residence. Rita was born on January 23, 1950 in Matewan, Mingo County, WV, and was adopted at the age of two weeks by Wylie Arnold and Hazel (Justice) Estep. The family migrated to Ohio in 1953 in search of suitable work and living quarters. Rita was a life long resident of the Port Clinton, Oak Harbor area and graduated from Port Clinton High School in 1968 and attended Terra Community College in Fremont, OH. Rita worked for Davis-Besse Power Plant for six and a half years and Aeroquip Inoac Plastics in Fremont, OH, and retired for medical reasons in 1999. Rita enjoyed action, mystery and suspense movies and was an avid reader of Murder mystery novels. She also enjoyed family history, Indian culture and history, and loved to sit down to savory meals cooked by her family and traveling to visit family and friends when she was able. Rita was married to her life-long sweetheart, Cecil O. Sutherland, in Monroe, MI on August 01, 1968. She remained with him for 47 years until her death. Rita was preceded in death by her parents and in-laws: Clyde and Oma (Johnson) Sutherland and is survived by her husband, children, Eric Sutherland of Oak Harbor, Gayla Sutherland of Oak Harbor, Adam Sutherland of Columbus, Kevin and Dannielle (Cotner) Sutherland of White’s Landing and grandchildren, Macy, Zachary, and Maranda Sutherland of Port Clinton, Taylor and Hannah Sutherland of Columbus, Bryanna Sutherland of Oak Harbor, Dylan, Devin, Maegan Sutherland of Whites Landing, Ashleigh Taylor of Fremont, OH and great-grandchildren, Adrienne and Lincoln of Port Clinton. Visitation will be from 2-4 6-8PM, Sunday, January 17, 2016, in the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, Port Clinton, OH. Funeral service will be held at 10:30AM, Monday, January 18, 2016 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Fitchville Cemetery, New London, OH in Huron County. Memorial donations in memory of Rita may be given to the American Diabetes Foundation and the American Cancer Society.
