Rita C. Martis

Rita C. (Fox) Martis, 87, of Rossford, Ohio, was called home to be with the Lord and to be reunited with her husband on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, when she passed away peacefully surrounded by her children.

Rita was born in Toledo, Ohio on April 11, 1937 to Henry and Sylvia (Bihl) Fox and was one of 10 children, growing up in a humble, two-bedroom home in East Toledo. She was a proud graduate of Waite High School, class of 1955. Rita married the love of her life, John Martis, and celebrated 61 years of marriage together.

Rita was a longtime member of St. Louis Catholic Church, where she would volunteer for festivals, clean the church and launder the altar linens. Upon the church’s closing, Rita became a member of All Saints Catholic Church. She enjoyed interacting with the people at church and helping stuff the weekly bulletins. She was also a longtime member of the Rossford Eagles and Maumee Elks.

Rita loved to cook and bake for her family. She enjoyed sewing and working in her flower garden. She would even feed the bunnies that came to visit her backyard. She also enjoyed bowling, playing cards and listening to music, often singing and dancing along with it. Many will remember her as active, full of energy and having a great sense of humor.

Family was most important to Rita. Their biggest supporter, she never missed an event that involved her children or grandchildren. She especially loved her great grandchildren and being a part of their lives. She will be missed in so many ways.

Rita is survived by her daughter Linda (William) Coutcher; son Ron (Kathie) Martis; grandchildren Austin (Meghan Scherger) Coutcher, Lily (Derek) Euype, Alexis (Allen) Knapik, and Nolan Martis; great grandchildren Kaiden Knapik, Carter Coutcher, Jace Knapik and Jack Euype; siblings Alice Zunk, Richard Fox, Marvin Fox. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, siblings Shirley Abrams, Louie Fox, Mary Hasenfratz, Paul Fox, Bob Fox and Daniel Fox.

Visitation will be held at Sujkowski-Walker Funeral Home, 830 Lime City Rd, Rossford, Ohio on Sunday, March 16, 2025 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM and on Monday, March 17, 2025 at All Saints Catholic Church, 630 Lime City Rd, Rossford, Ohio at 10:00 AM with a funeral mass at 11:00 AM.
