Webster Richard M. Richard M. Webster, age 77, passed away on September 2, 2009. Dick was born December 6, 1931 in Minot, ND to Morris and Frances Webster. As a boy, he was very involved with scouting, eventually earning his Eagle Scout badge. Dick was a veteran of the US Army serving as a Specialist 3rd Class in the 2nd Infantry Division Band. He received his bachelors degree at the University of Washington in Seattle, studying clarinet with Ronald Phillips, and his masters degree and performers certificate at the Eastman School of Music in New York where he studied with Stanley Hasty and made six recordings for Mercury Records with the Eastman Wind Ensemble. Dick was Professor of Music at the University of Toledo from 1962 until retiring in 2000 receiving the designation of Professor Emeritus in 1993. Dick was very involved with the music community throughout his life. His memberships included Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Univ. of Washington Music Fraternity, Phi Delta Kappa Univ. of Washington Honorary Fraternity, International Clarinet Assoc., Ohio Music Educators Assoc., Professional Musicians of NW Ohio, Local 15-286 of the American Federation of Musicians, Ohio Retired Teachers Assoc., and Univ. of Toledo Retirees Assoc. Dick acquired an extensive collection of comic art over the years which he recently donated to Michigan State University. He was passionate about music and performing and also enjoyed genealogy. Dick is survived by his cherished wife, Rosalie; beloved sister, Marion Parks; nieces and nephews, John Diana Parks, Michael Parks, and Melissa David Snell; great nieces and nephews, Kelly Parks, Kyle Parks, Nicholas Tiffany Parks, and Amy Snell; great-great nephew, Corbin Parks. He was the brother-in-law of Dr. D. James Greiner, Juliette Eugene Shaw, Lisa Douglas Lesley, David Paul Shaw, and Kathryn L. Shaw. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Morris Nathaniel Webster and Frances Mercedes Mahon Webster; brother, John Webster; and sister-in-law, Kathryn Greiner. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4-8:00pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Road and Saturday from 10-11:00am at Epworth United Methodist Church, 3077 Valleyview Dr., Toledo, OH with services immediately following at 11:00am. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Rd. Perrysburg, OH 43551 or the Cherry Street Mission, 105 17th St. Toledo, OH 43604.
