In Loving Memory of Richard (Dick) Walen
Dick Walen, devoted husband, cherished family member, and accomplished financial investment planner, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2025, at the age of 84. His departure leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew him, but his legacy of wisdom, kindness, and integrity will endure forever.
Born on May 19, 1940, Dick lived a life defined by purpose and passion. After graduating from Toledo Central Catholic High School, he worked at Doehler-Jarvis Manufacturing. Eventually, he found his true calling, doing what he would describe as “helping people keep their money.” To that end, he began working for New York Life, where he earned many prestigious awards. However, Dick still felt he could do better for his clients. In 2006, he opened his investment firm, Walen Financial Group, LLC, where he served his clients as a Chartered Life Underwriter, Chartered Financial Consultant, Accredited Estate Planner, and Financial Coach.
Over his distinguished career in financial investment planning, Dick guided countless families and individuals toward stability and growth with empathy and insight. His clients were more than numbers to him—they were people with hopes, goals, and dreams. He treated each one with the same care he gave his own family, right down to singing his personal rendition of Happy Birthday to them on their special day.
Above all else, Dick was a devoted husband to his beloved wife Pam, with whom he shared 34 years of marriage, laughter, and unwavering partnership. They enjoyed spending time together, whether here in Toledo or Florida. He was also a treasured father, brother, grandfather, and friend, whose presence brought warmth, humor, and guidance into every room he entered.
Dick was a man who believed in doing the right thing. He was generous with his time, quick with a kind word, and always ready with a story that made you feel like the most important person in the room. His smile was infectious. When you met Dick, you had a friend for life. Away from the office, Dick found freedom in the skies. A licensed pilot, who at one point flew an airplane he built himself, Dick LOVED to get airborne and to share stories with his friends at the hanger and at the Old Timers luncheons. In addition, he enjoyed playing his guitar, singing, and practicing on his flight simulator.
The family would like to thank Dr. Hussein, Dr. Klada, Dr. Vogel, Dr. Savoie, and his entire team of doctors and nurses in both Ohio and Florida. He received exceptional medical care from all of his providers and was able to live a long and fulfilling life.
Dick is survived by his loving wife, Pamela, daughter Christine (Juan) Patino, son Randolph (Marsha) Walen, granddaughter, Marissa Patino, and sister Judy (Alan) Max, He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather and infant son.
A memorial service will be held on May 17th at 10:00, with mass to follow at 11:00 at Little Flower Catholic Church, 5522 Dorr St., Toledo, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor of your choice.
