Richard W. Vroman

Richard W. Vroman, 79, of Maumee, passed away in his home surrounded by his family on February 24, 2010. He had been in poor health for 3 months and seriously ill for one week. He was born March 18, 1930 in Burgoon, Ohio, to Orvis and Garnet Ellenberger Vroman. A 1948 graduate of Jackson-Burgoon High School, he was an accomplished athlete, playing baseball, basketball, and six-man football. He married Dorothy Zucker on December 11, 1949 at Zion Reformed Church in Bettsville, Ohio. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Mr. Vroman worked for Hewitt Robbins in Fremont, OH from 1948 to 1965. He then worked for Ford Motor Co. in Monroe, MI from 1965 until retiring in May, 1991. He was a member of St. Petris Lutheran Church in Toledo, OH. He survived by his wife and daughters; Christine Richard Bird of Dundee, MI, Charlene Michael Trabbic of Temperance, MI, Cynthia Jeffrey Reitzel of Perrysburg, OH, and Cheryl Samuel Castello of Monroe, MI; seven grandchildren, Paul, Matthew, and Andrea Wierman, Gena Brent Keith, Anna Estep and Zachary and Alex Reitzel; two brothers, Herbert Ruth of Westerville, Ohio and Bill Judy of Fostoria, OH and a sister Janice Vroman of Fremont, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Hilma. Friends may call on Sunday, February 28, 2010 from 2-9 pm at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St., Maumee. Services will be held at St. Petri Lutheran Church, 3120 S. Bryne Road, Toledo with Pastor David Vinciguerra officiating on Monday, March 1, 2010 at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be at Smith Cemetery in Burgoon, OH.
