Richard Frank Stein

Richard Frank Stein, 96, of Port Clinton, Ohio, passed away on December 18, 2025 at Edgewood Manor in Port Clinton, OH. Richard was born on April 20, 1929 in Sandusky, Ohio, the son of Norbert and Renata Keller Stein.

Richard graduated from Port Clinton High School in 1947, president of his senior class. He married the love of his life, Rosella Bebow Stein on May 20, 1950, and she survives. He is also survived by his two sons, Jim (Diane) Stein of Bellefontaine, OH, John (Sandy) Stein of Naples, FL; and three grandsons, Joseph and Nicholas Stein of Bellefontaine, Richard (Aleisha) Stein of Lyman, SC.

He worked at Mathews Boat Company and Ohio Public Works before serving in the US Navy from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning from service, he worked at Port Clinton Water Works, and then joined the American Bank, now Key Bank. He worked 30 years beginning as a bookkeeper and retired as Executive Vice President and board member.

After retirement he served as Port Clinton City Treasurer for 15 years. He was a 55 year member of Kiwanis, including past president. He was also involved in Elks, Salvation Army, Red Cross (an avid blood donor), American Legion, Ottawa County tax abatement, Boy Scout Committee Chairman and Music Boosters (treasurer for 8 years). Richard was a lifetime member of the Immaculate Conception Church.

Richard was honored to be part of PCHS celebration of 100 years of football last fall as its oldest surviving player. Besides football, he was also a bicycle enthusiast, riding over 40,000 miles. Richard enjoyed tennis, fishing, and most of all spending time with family. This past May, Richard and Rosella celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary.

Visitation will be held Friday, December 26, 2025 at Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Father Jonathan Wight will officiate a funeral mass on Saturday, December 27, 2025 at 11:00AM at the Immaculate Conception Church, Port Clinton, Ohio. Interment will be at a later date.

The family would like to thank the kind and caring staff at Edgewood Manor and Southern Care Hospice for their care of Richard. Memorial contributions can be made to Immaculate Conception church/school in Richard’s honor.
