Rick, loving father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away on Monday, September 3, 2012 at the age of 54 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo with family at his side. He was born and raised in Holland, Ohio where he was a graduate of Springfield High School. He lived and worked most of his life in the Toledo area. In 1975, Rick joined the Air Force Reserves and for over 25 years he worked at General Mills until its Toledo plant closure. He was a collector of memorabilia, loved fishing, hunting and photography, and had a passion for music. An avid lover of rock and roll and country music, he was a self taught musician and enjoyed mastering the banjo, guitar, harmonica, and drums. Rick loved riding his motorcycle and took many memorable bike trips including a cross country odyssey on his Harley Davidson in 1985. Charismatic and kindhearted, he touched the lives of all he encountered, even in his last days. He will be remembered most for his hard work ethic, sense of humor, strong will and courage. Rick was adored by a multitude of dear friends and family. His passing has left a tremendous void in the hearts of those who feel blessed to have known him. Rick was the father of Christy (Robert) Harris, Jamie (Michael) Klear, Ben (Erin), and Jake. He was the grandfather of five: Kennedy, Robert, Bailey, Tate and Maggie. Rick is survived by his brother Bob (Jill), sisters Cathy (Bill Polhemus) Pant, Cheryl Georgiades and Julie (Ron) Valerius along with nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edmund and Paula Stansfield and his sister, Linda. Relatives and friends are invited to join in a casual celebration of Rick’s life on Thursday September 6 at The Lodge at Strawberry Acres Park located on McCord at Clarion Ave. in Holland, OH from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Timberlake Community Church or to Nightingale’s Harvest will be appreciated.
