Richard J Sarno

Richard J. Sarno, 95, formerly of Jacksonville, FL and currently of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on December 30, 2014. He passed on four days after the death of his wife of 71 years. His body evidently knew that his purpose on earth was completed. Richard was born in Boston, MA on June 12, 1919 to Vito Lamuscio and Antoinette Sardino. Richard grew up in Boston and at the age of 17 joined the Marine Corp. He met Ruth Bond while in Jacksonville, FL and they married in 1943. He served in the Marines for 20 years and fought as a tail gunner in both WWII and the Korean War. He retired from active duty in 1958. From 1958 to 1970, he worked in the civil service as a Civilian Equipment Specialist at the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, FL. Richard was the second oldest of seven children. He was preceded in death by his siblings, James, Benjamin, Mary, Frances and Agnes. He is survived by sister, Ann Alongi. Ruth and Richard had three children, Rickye (Henry) Heffner, Richard Sarno, Jr. (deceased) and Rudi Jenkins. She is also survived by grandchildren, Henry (Sarah), Peter (Cathy), Kristin, Casey (Justin) and Danielle, and six great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2014 at 2:30 P.M. at the Reed Chapel at Swan Creek, 5916 Cresthaven Lane in Toledo, OH.
