Richard W. Ruse

Richard Dick W. Ruse Sr. of Toledo, Ohio passed away peacefully on December 29, 2013, he was 89 years old. Dick was born on July 14, 1924 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Donald H. Ruse Sr. and Ann Witte Ruse. His father worked as an executive of the Hanna Coal and Shipping Company and was a well-respected local civic leader. Dick was the younger brother to Donald H. Ruse Jr., who passed away in 1997. The Ruse family moved to Toledo in 1940 where Dick graduated from Scott High School. He briefly attended Miami University before entering the US Army in 1943 where he served 3 years with the 91st General Army Hospital in England and Europe before being honorably discharged in 1946. In 1947 he met Gloria Roberts of Jamaica, West Indies and they were married on July 15, 1950. Together they raised six children and remained happily married for the next 54 years. Gloria passed away in 2004. Dick was a respected businessman in the automotive industry before retiring to pursue his passions which ranged from working on his home and automobiles to enjoying the Lake Erie culture of boating, fishing and entertaining. Dick is survived by his six children; COL Laura R. Brosch, USA ret and her husband LTC Gary Brosch, USA ret of Frederick, MD, Linda E. Ruse of Thousand Oaks, CA, Kathleen D. Ruse of Westlake Village, CA., Richard W. Ruse Jr. and his wife Erin Traynor McGuire of Simi Valley, CA, Dr. June M. Ruse of Loomis, CA. and Donald H. Ruse III and his wife Karen E. Jansen of Austin, TX. He is also survived by six grandchildren; Alexander Paul. Kohler, Richard Dean Ruse, Olivia Marie Ruse, Trevor Arnold, Devin Jordan, Miles Ruse, and four great grandchildren; Wyatt Arnold, and Emma, Grace, and Lucy Jordan. He will be dearly missed by all. A private family service will be held to celebrate Dicks life in early January, 2014.
