Richard N. Renn, 74, of Port Clinton, OH died unexpectedly Friday, August 17, 2012 at Magruder Hospital, Port Clinton, OH. He was born on October 25, 1937 in Holyoke, CO to Norman and Maude Cooper Renn. Dick graduated from Marion Harding High School in 1955 and helped create their newsletters and organized reunion breakfasts twice a year. He attended Bowling Green State University and graduated from The Ohio State University. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1961. On August 8, 1959 in Ulm, Germany he married Elaine M. Haines and she survives. Dick had worked as an engineer for the Erie-Lakawanna Railroad for 13 years and was an owner/operator of Phils Inn Restaurant in Port Clinton for 32 years. Dick was very involved in his community as a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, member and past president of the Port Clinton Rotary Club, served as president and secretary for the Rotary Chili Open, served as Rotary District #6600 District Governor, managing director, president, director, and actor in the Playmakers in Port Clinton, volunteered on the Auxiliary at Magruder Hospital and helped start the Cafe and served as a consultant, helped start and served as president of the Ottawa County Visitors Bureau. He also worked as a substitute teacher at several area schools and was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi and Phi Beta Kappa Fraternities. Dick was a Cleveland Browns season ticket holder for over 30 years and enjoyed piloting his plane, trains, boat, and motorcycle. In addition to his loving wife of 53 years, Elaine, Dick is survived by his son: Christopher Renn of Findlay, OH, son: Cameron Lisa Renn of Cincinnati, OH, daughter: Cassandra Brandon Lawson of Columbus, OH, 5 grandchildren: Halle and Harmony Renn, Colin Renn, and Darcy and Devin Lawson, and mother-in-law: Mary Conroy of Marion, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents and son: Darcy Renn. Visitation will be 6-8PM, Monday, August 20, 2012 at the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home, 216 Washington St., Port Clinton, OH, where the funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 21, 2012. Interment will be in Marion Cemetery, Marion, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Dick may be given to Port Clinton Playmakers, Port Clinton Rotary, or Trinity United Methodist Church, Port Clinton.
