Richard C. Raether, 82, of Perrysburg, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, March 13, 2012. He was born in Rossford, Ohio on May 9, 1929 to Emil C. and Catherine (Kopp) Raether and was an U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. For over thirty years, he worked as a glasscutter for L.O.F. and also owned and operated Raether's Bar in Rossford up until its closing in 1987. Richard was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church and for years with Cooley Canal Yacht Club where he loved boating and fishing on the water. He was a member of the Northwood VFW Post 2094 and the Rossford Eagles Aerie 2322. He was a gifted tradesman who enjoyed building things and was always tinkering and finding ways to help others. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; daughters, Hope (Sean) Nevins of Rossford and Lolly (Bill) Sweeney of Gahanna; son, Matthew Haines of Georgia; grandchildren, Little Josh, Jessica, Christine, Mallory and Chloe; and brother, Harold Raether of Columbia, IN. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Evelyn Raether. Friends will be received from 10-1 P.M. in the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary, Perrysburg (419-874-3133) on Friday, March 16, 2012 where funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. with Father Schetter officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
