Richard Joseph Pauken

Richard J. Pauken, age 87, passed away Monday, October 26, 2015 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio after a brief illness. Richard was born to Paul and Mary (Gay) Pauken on April 8, 1928 in Maumee, Ohio. He married Nancy L. Tschappat on October 20, 1956. Richard was a Corporal in the United States Army, serving in the Artillery Division in the Korean War. He was a letter carrier and Postal Supervisor for the Maumee Post Office, retiring after thirty years. Richard then served as custodian at St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Maumee. He was a lifetime member of St. Josephs Parish in Maumee, volunteering in his retirement with the student bands and music classes. Richard was an accomplished musician, playing clarinet, saxophone, flute, piano and ukulele, and was a founding member of the Maumee Community Band. He was a skilled woodworker, turning battered furniture into heirlooms and blocks of wood into personalized toys for hundreds of children. Richard also enjoyed working with many artistic media, particularly pastels and oils. Surviving are his children Pat (Mark) Selfe of Perrysburg, Tom (Michael Laliberte) Pauken of Milwaukee, Janet (Tom) Dellinger of Whitehouse; grandchildren Andrew (Emily) Selfe, Amy (Alan) Unruh, Paul Laliberte, Emily Dellinger and Megan Dellinger; great-grandchildren Hannah and Layla Selfe; brothers Ray, Ken and Marty; and sisters Mary Louise Tieman and Connie Williams. He was predeceased by his wife, Nancy, and brothers Steven, Carl and Jim. Friends and family will be received at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, Ohio on Thursday, October 29, 2015 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday, October 30, 2015 at 1:00 PM. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Richard may be made to City of Maumee (Maumee Community Band — Richard Pauken on memo line), or to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
