Richard M. Moore, Sr.

Richard Martin Moore, Sr. age 89, passed away on February 1, 2012 in Sylvania, OH. Richard was born in the Bronx, New York on September 25, 1922 to Edward and Susan Moore and graduated from Fordham Preparatory High School. He obtained his college degree from the University of Toledo College of Business after his retirement from the military. Richard enlisted in the U.S. Marines at onset of World War II in 1941 and served as a distinguished night fighter pilot. Richard received a number of air combat medals for his contributions in the Asian/Pacific theatre in both WWII and the Korean War. After the Korean War, he was stationed at Okinawa, Japan, the Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, NC, MCAS El Toro, CA, Corpus Christi, TX, and finally the Pentagon, Washington D.C. In 1963, after his last assignment in the Pentagon, Richard retired with the rank of Major and relocated to Toledo to be near his wifes family. In Toledo, he was the Personnel Director at the American Motors Jeep Corporation. Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Patricia Moore nee Shaner and parents. A loving father, he is survived by his sons, Richard Martin Moore, Jr. Elaine, Sedalia, CO; Terrence Debbie, Divide, CO; and Timothy Terribeth, Toledo, OH; daughter, Carol Lynn Knight, Toledo, OH, who served as his caretaker in his last years, 9 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Edward Moore, Queens, NY. Visitation will be Saturday, February 4, 2012 from 4-8:00pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd.. Funeral services will begin on Monday, February 6, 2012 with prayers at 10:00am at the funeral home followed by Mass of the Resurrection at 10:30am at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3011 Carskaddon Ave. Toledo, OH 43606. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
