Richard Dick W. Manzeck, 78, of Elmore, Ohio, died Wednesday, February 26, 2014, under hospice care at Riverview Healthcare Campus in Oak Harbor. Richard was born in Elmore on October 10, 1935, to William and Alice Hetrick Manzeck. He married Anita Strohscher Manzeck at St. Johns UCC, Genoa, on April 29, 1961. Richard graduated from Harris-Elmore High School in 1954. From 1954-1956, he served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Staten Island, New York. He worked for the Ohio Turnpike, Surface Combustion, and Brush-Wellman, followed by over 12 years as assistant custodian at St. Johns UCC, where he and his boss and good friend, George, were known as the Dick and George Team, a pair of fun-loving practical jokers, but good workers. Dick was very active in church, having served on Consistory, various committees and an avid dartball player. He was a past member of Elmore Kiwanis and the Ottawa County Horse Harness Association, and a Friday transportation volunteer at Mercy-St. Charles Hospital. He spent most afternoons having coffee and discussing the latest news with his buddies at Tinas Carry-out in Elmore. Richard is survived by Anita, his loving wife of 53 years, daughters, Linda Don Woodmansee of Galion, OH, and Kathy Kent Anderson of Westborough, MA; grandchildren, Jeremiah Emily and Josh Suzanne Woodmansee, and Sarah and Eric Anderson; and great grandchildren, Allyssa and Raegen Woodmansee. Richards family will receive family and friends on Friday, March 7, 2014, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at St. Johns United Church of Christ, 1213 Washington St., Genoa, OH 43430. A memorial service celebrating Richards life will be held at the church at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, March 8, 2014, with visitation one hour prior to the service. A private graveside service will be conducted at Harris-Elmore Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the heating and cooling project at St. Johns UCC or Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Rd., Perrysburg, OH 43551.
