Richard F. Lehner, 83 of Toledo, Ohio passed away peacefully on June 5, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 6, 1939 to Richard J. and Molly (Bartosky) Lehner. He and his sister Linda grew up in Rossford, Ohio. He met his future wife Mary Kay (Wehrmeister) at her sister’s wedding in 1958. They married in 1964 and celebrated their 58 th wedding anniversary in May.
Richard spent his younger years working in the family store Lehner’s Market. He attended Rossford High School and after graduation attended Defiance College. His skills in sales led him to various positions in sales and management in the Midwest including Payne, Ohio, Chicago, IL, Indianapolis, IN and Toledo. He was a talented and hardworking salesman who made quite an impact on all who knew him.
Richard was most proud of the many years he served as a member of the Food and Entertainment committees and then Co-Chair of Frontier Days in Arlington Heights, IL. He was honored when the Mayor selected him to serve on the Centennial Activities Committee for the 100 year celebration of Arlington Heights. Some of his best family memories were coaching and watching his children play softball and baseball. He enjoyed weekends and vacations with the family at Bay Point resort in Marblehead, OH for many years. In Illinois he rooted for the Iowa Hawkeyes and enjoyed watching the bears and Cubs. In Ohio he cheered for The Ohio State Buckeyes. He was a loving husband, a trustworthy father and a beloved grandfather who will be missed.
Richard is survived by his wife Mary Kay, son Brian (Sheri) Lehner, daughter Carrie (Timothy) Henkel, sister Linda Norwood and grandchildren Oliver and Cecilia Henkel, Riley Lehner, Shelby (Bart) Ortiz, Taylor Conn (Nic Frey), great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave., Toledo, on Friday, June 10, 2022 from 4:00-8:00 pm with a scripture service at 7:30 pm. Visitation will also be held Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 10 am at Little Flower Catholic Church, 5522 Dorr St., Toledo prior to the mass that follows at 11 am.
