Richard (Dick) F. Johns, age 84 of Maumee, Ohio passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. He was born October 9, 1931 in Toledo to Roy W. and Ada C. (Sondergeld) Johns. He graduated from DeVilbiss High School and immediately began a 40 year career working as a journeyman electrical mechanic at Toledo Edison, retiring in 1989. In July of 1965, Dick submitted a personal ad in the Toledo Blade in which he said Young Man - aged 33 - steady job, reliable, affectionateLikes good music, conversation, and childrento meet a young lady Within three months, Richard married Marilyn S. (Ransom) on October 9, 1965. Richard was an active member of the Heatherdowns Church of the Brethren, as well as the IBEW. Dad lived a simple life wanting to spend time with his family and many friends, bowling, playing cards, sports, poetry, telling jokes, dancing, and singing. A kind heart and gentle soul, he showed unconditional love at every opportunity. Dads last lucid moment was a song he sung to his son, daughter, and son-in-law. A few days later, and exactly three hours before dad passed on, he was gifted with his own private serenade of Sentimental Journey from nine amazing angels, the Threshold Choir at Hospice. Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; and dogs Velvet, Silky, and Lucy. Also preceding him in death were his sisters Ruth and Margaret. He is survived by his son, Robert (Pam) Johns, of Cape Coral, FL, and daughter, Richelle (Bob) Burkey, of Maumee; and grandchildren, Jenny and Justin Johns, and Christy (Smitty) Penman; and one sister, Alice, as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Friday March 18, 2016 and begin at 4:00 pm in the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee with services at 6:00 pm.
