Richard Dick G. Iffland, 82, of Clay Center, Ohio, died early Thursday, July 16, 2009, in the Genoa Retirement Village. Dick was born June 1, 1927, in Martin, Ohio, to Henry and Hazel Bringe Iffland. On March 25, 1960, in Toledo, Ohio, he married Betty Lynn Scharer, who survives him. After 37 years Dick retired as an order/shipping clerk from L.O.F. Rossford Plant. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Elliston, where he served on the Youth Fellowship Committee as well as the Building Committee when the new building was built. Dick sat on Clay Centers village council from 1962-1993 and served as its clerk treasurer from 1993-2008. Until his death, Dick was active in many local activities. He was a founding member and director/Director Emeritus for the Genoa Area Local Schools Scholarship Foundation. He was a past Band Booster president and was very active in his sons school activities for many years. Being a 1945 graduate of Clay High School, Dick served on their reunion committee, and he was a member of the Topics Camera Club in Rossford. Dick also enjoyed attending many of his grandchildrens activities. In addition to his wife, Lynn, Dick is survived by his sons, Terry Norma Iffland of Dublin, Bruce Iffland of Gibsonburg, two grandsons, Trent and Tyler Iffland, brother, Glenn Debra Iffland of Oregon, and brother-in-law, Fred Scharer of Genoa. He is also survived by nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and son, Dennis Dewey, Iffland. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Sunday, July 19, 2009, in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Genoa, and 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 20, 2009. The funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2009, in Zion United Methodist Church, Eilliston, with burial to follow in Clay Township Cemetery, Genoa. Memorials for Dick may be given to the Genoa Area Local Schools Scholarship Foundation or Zion United Methodist Church.
