Richard C. Hunt

Richard C. Hunt passed away peacefully on May 26, 2016 in his home. Born February 24, 1917 to Leroy W. and Laura M. Hunt, he was the middle son in a family of three brothers. Richard was appointed to the fire department in 1940, entered the Navy in 1942 and was the Co-Chief of the Barbers Point, Hi Naval Air Station. He was discharged in 1945 after serving 44 months. He continued in the Toledo Fire Service and retired in 1972 as a Deputy Chief after serving 31 years. Richard traveled extensively and visited Russia, South Africa and England as a People to People delegate. After retirement, he conducted a successful real estate career, first with Hunt National Real Estate Appraisal and later with Maumee Valley Appraisal. In 1992, he received a B.A. Cum Laude from the University of Toledo. A Master Mason, Richard was a Shriner, a former Commander of the Knights Templar and a past Director of Court 21, Royal Order of Jesters. He enjoyed being a retired firefighter and continued to attend numerous retiree events until he was unable to travel. The family wishes to thank Renee Ajibade, Home Sweet Home and her staff for the excellent care Richard received. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Leroy and Warren, daughter, Barbara Kingsley, his grandson, Robert II and his wife of 71 years, Dorothy. He is survived by his son, Robert C. Hunt (Victoria), granddaughter, Lyndsay E. Hunt, grandsons, David and Joshua Kingsley and many nephews, nieces and grandchildren. Family and friends are welcome to attend a memorial service at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 11, 2016 in the Sylvania First United Methodist Church, 7000 Erie Street, Sylvania, OH 43560. Memorials may be made in the form of contributions to the Paws and Whiskers Cat Shelter.
