Richard G. Hite, age 88, a Toledo native, passed to eternal life on December 16, 2014, at ProMedica Ebeid Hospice Residence, Sylvania, Ohio. Richard was born to Gayford and Lucille (Duffey) Hite, on January 25, 1926, and attended Rosary Cathedral Elementary and Jessup Scott High School before entering the U.S. Navy in 1944. A veteran of World War II, he was honorably discharged in 1946. Richard worked for Kuhlman Builders Brick Supply Company as a crane operator for 35 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the American Legion 587 Post, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 18. Married for 41 years to his loving wife, Alma Louise (Couturier) Hite, she preceded him in death in 1990. One of three children, Richard was also preceded in death by his sister, Jeannette (Hite) Ritter, and is survived by his brother, Dale C. Hite, of Manitowac, Wisconsin; two sons, the Reverend Gregory R. Hite and Allan L. Hite (married to Rose); two grandchildren (Corey and Erin), great granddaughter, Ryleigh; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation for Richard will be at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 West Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, Ohio on Friday, December 19, 2014, from 3 to 8 pm, with a Prayer Vigil beginning at 7 pm. Funeral services will begin with prayers at the funeral home on Saturday at 10:15am. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Gesu Catholic Church, 2049 Parkside Boulevard, Toledo, on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 11 am, with his son, Father Gregory Hite, as celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Parkside Boulevard, Toledo immediately following the Mass. The family wishes to thank caregivers at Alexis Gardens, Flower Hospital, Ebeid Hospice, and Dr. Thomas McAlear, MD, for their kindness and care.
