Richard Dick Haberstock, age 82, passed away on Wednesday morning at home with his loving family at his side. Born on June 21, 1930 to Martha and Harry Haberstock, he graduated from Waite High School in 1948. Some of his fondest memories were his days at Waite and being a member of the marching band. Upon graduation, he served proudly in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Franklin Roosevelt. Returning to Toledo, he was employed by Pure Oil Company until they left the region. Later, he joined the Toledo Police Department, where he honorably served during the 60s and 70s. In 1985, he formed Haberstock Custom Homes, Inc. in Waterville, Ohio, establishing a reputation for high quality in his homes. Due to health reasons, he retired in 2000. In retirement, he joined MCO Volunteer Staff. He was also a past member of the Toledo Home Builders Association, Fraternal Order of Police and Ducks Unlimited. In 1957, he married the love of his life, Lois Van Vorhis. Dick and Louies strong bond would continue for over 55 years together as inseparable partners in life. Dick was an outgoing people person who loved celebrations and parties. His gift for playing practical jokes, and his gentle and caring ways, will be treasured by all who knew him, from close friends to casual acquaintances. He always looked forward to the holiday season and specifically to his role as Santa for nieces, nephews, and friends. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting, but later gave up hunting in favor of enjoying the wildlife. He was always the first to adopt a stray and homeless animal. He is survived by his wife, Lois; daughters, Lisa Scott Haberstock-Jeffer and Sandra Ted Cocolin; granddaughters, Grace Ann Marie; Madeline Sophia Rose; Dana Marie Pat Vargo, and Alexandra Cocolin; grandson, T. Christopher Tara; and great grandchildren, Gabrielle, Aiden, Tanner, Austin and Baby Cocolin. He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald. A special thanks to Alzheimers Association of Greater Toledo and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for all their hours of support. Also, a special thank you to Candy Snell. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the organizations mentioned above.
