Richard Joseph Gross

Richard Dick Gross was born in Toledo on Oct 29, 1927 to George Joe Gross Anna Mehlman. Dick loved Toledo and spent his life giving to the community and his family. He met his wife of 61 years, Marion Alexander on a trip to New York in 1951 and they married in early 1952. Together they have 4 children, 11 grandchildren 4 great, grandchildren. A lifelong resident, Dick attended Scott High School where he was senior class president and a track star. He then attended the University of Michigan where he was active in the ZBT fraternity. After a stint in the Army Air Force he returned to U of M and graduated in 1950. Upon graduation he moved back to Toledo to work in the family business. As President of Gross Electric for almost 50 years, he loved his work and treated everyone within the organization like family. Dick was passionate about Toledo. His strong belief in the community was apparent through his volunteer work in a variety of organizations. He was a cofounder of the Family Business Center at the University of Toledo, past president of Jewish Family Service, the Better Business Bureau and the International Institute. He was past Eastern Region Vice President of the National Association of Electrical Distributors and helped found the American Lighting Association. To his friends and family he was known for his love of life, his readiness to laugh, his intelligence and his kind, fun loving heart. Dick had a lifelong passion for music, reading and traveling the world with his wife and family. He was a loyal, compassionate friend, loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by all his friends and family, but most of all by his wife Marion. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Paulette Gross Green, Joann Gross Mostov, Marilyn Gross Eisler, and is survived by his wife Marion, daughters Laurie Gross, Marcia Miller, Paulette Collins Dave and son Joe CaryGross, his 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces nephews. Funeral services will be held at Temple Shomer Emunim, 6453 Sylvania Ave, at 11:00am Monday January 13th. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Toledo Symphony, the Alzheimers Association of Toledo or the Jewish Federation of Toledo. The family will receive people at the house of Joe Cary Gross, 5569 Ginger Tree, Toledo Monday Tuesday from 5-8pm. Arrangements by Walker Funeral Home.
