Richard Harold Dick Garrett, Sr.

Richard Harold Garrett Sr. “Dick”,83, of Point Place passed away on January 15, 2015 at his son’s Richard’s home. He was born on October 24, 1931 to Harold and Elsie Garrett and was a 1951 graduate of Macomber High School. Dick served his country during the Korean War in the Air Force working as an Aircraft Mechanic. He also worked at GM Powertrain in the maintenance department where he retired and was also part of UAW Local 14. Dick was a member of several organizations including American Legion Post 0110, Am Vets Life member of Post 1010, Point Place VFW, and he was a Past Commodore of Bay View Yacht Club and a member of the International Order of the Blue Gavel. He was an avid sailor and sailed in the Lake Erie Mills Race in 1981, 1982, and 1983 on his beloved 30 foot Hunter. Along with sailing the British Virgin Islands many times. Richard is survived by his former wife and loving companion, Billie G. Garrett-Miller, Children, Richard H. (Peggy) Garrett Jr., Patti J. (Bill) Garrett - Borsos, Randall L. (Debbie) Garrett along with his 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and sister, Jean Strojan. Dick is preceded in death by his daughter, Cindy G. Garrett. Friends will be received at: Neville Funeral Home Reynolds Corner Chapel 5052 Dorr Street Toledo, OH 43615 on Monday, January 19, 2015 from 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at 11 A.M. where burial will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
