Richard Coehrs, Jr.

May 16, 1954 — March 1, 2025

Richard John Coehrs, Jr. of Toledo, Ohio passed away on March 1st, 2025 at the age of 70. Rick, as he was known to friends and family, departed after fighting a long battle with leukemia and lung cancer. He was born in the city of Toledo in 1954 to Richard John Sr. and Mary Coehrs and lived his entire life on the city’s east side. He was preceded in death by his aforementioned parents and his beloved brother, Allan. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen, siblings Mary, Frank (Julie), and Donald, sons Richard (Shannon) and Robert (Helen), step daughter Tonya, and grandchildren, Johnathan, Anastasia, Anthony, Kenneth, Nathan, and Alex.

Richard was a larger than life character and never missed an opportunity to enjoy time with his family. He had many nicknames such as “Paw Paw”, “The Funmeister”, “The Patron Saint of Children and Animals”, “Lil Red”, and “The King of Useless Knowledge.” He gave himself each title to let the world know that he had two reasons to live, family and fun. He was also well known for bringing his two great loves together each year for his most cherished holiday, Christmas. These gatherings were legendary amongst his family members because of the resolute enthusiasm and peerless generosity he shared each and every year. Richard’s kindness and consistency also manifested throughout his life in his unwavering support of charities for animals (particularly the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah) and in his dependability and reliability over 32 remarkable years working for Toledo Public Schools and nine years at the Highland Meadows Golf Club. He would tell anyone that would listen, however, that his proudest achievements were fatherhood and especially grandfatherhood. He was a quintessential family man.
