Richard Burson Jr.

Richard Allyn Burson Jr. of Rossford, Ohio, passed away on April 4, 2026 at St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio. He was born August 30, 1967 in Toledo, Ohio, to Richard Sr. And Evelyn Joanne (Cole) Burson.

Rick graduated from Waite High School in 1985. With a passion for craftsmanship, Rick joined the IBEW Local 8 right after high school. He spent 40 years working in a variety of roles with the union, spending most of his career with Turner Electric and GEM before his most recent role as a business agent for the Local 8. He served as the president of the Local 8 Motorcycle Club, a board member on the Toledo Electrical Board of Control and the JATC Apprenticeship Committee. Rick exemplified what it meant to be a union electrician. Whether it was fighting for his union brothers and sisters rights or just offering advice to apprentices, there was never a day he wasn't proud to be a part of the IBEW.

Growing up Rick enjoyed fishing and going out on the boat with his father. He especially loved his family summer vacations to Northern Michigan. He was a lifelong fan of Toledo and Detroit sports alike. He made a hobby of leather working, 3D printing, and sewing. Rick was also a motorcycle enthusiast and loved to ride, especially with the Local 8 Motorcycle Club.

He is survived by his significant other, Taracia Chumley; his sisters Shawn Burson and Tracey Rasar (Jack Sr); his children Teresa Burson, Joseph Burson, and Ben Burson; his stepchildren Tahylar Chumley, Conagher Ottensman, and Katherine Ottensman; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Richard Sr. and Evelyn Joanne Burson; his sisters Boni Segura and Vivian Burson; and his son Adam Burson.
