Richard John Bridgman

Richard John Bridgman, 87, formerly of Millbury and Perrysburg, OH passed away on, Wednesday, October 26, 2016, at Otterbein Portage Valley Senior Lifestyle Community in Pemberville, OH. He was born on April 5, 1929 in Curtice, OH to Cameron E. and Jeanette (DeVries) Bridgman. Richard attended Lake High School and then served in the U.S. National Guard for three years. Soon after, he became employed with the Gulf Oil Company where he worked for thirty-one years as a heavy equipment operator retiring in August 14, 1981. On May 6, 1950 he married, Lila Lee Grant, who preceded him in death on August 19, 1973. On November 23, 1974 he then married, Joan M. Meeks, who also preceded him in death on May 28, 2011. His interests included watching golf on TV, being an avid Detroit Tigers fan, and perfecting his talents as a skilled woodworker. He is survived by his children, Rick J. (Denice K.) Bridgman of Perrysburg, and Kathy Lee (Gil) Bastubee of Spring TX; stepchildren, Vicki Rosie, and Scott (Kathy) Gressler; twelve grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; sister, Jeanette Sahr. He was also preceded in death by a son, Randy Bridgman, brother, Cameron L. Bridgman, and sister, Jenny Lee Knudson. Friends will be received from 2 P.M. - 7 P.M. on Monday, October 31, 2016 at Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary St., Perrysburg, OH 43551 (419-874-3133) where a Memorial Service will begin at 7 P.M. with Pastor Keith Merriman officiating. Burial will be private in Lake Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made in the form of contributions to Grace Brethren Chapel, 1820 State Route 590, Gibsonburg, OH 43431.
