Dick went to be with the love of his life Joan and his son Rich on January 31, 2015. He will be remembered most as a loving father and grandfather always putting the needs of his family ahead of himself. He was born in Toledo on April 20, 1929 to Roswell A. Ahrendt and Marguerite K. Baker. Dick was a longtime member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Maumee. He was a proud alumni of Devilbiss High School (1947) where he played baseball, basketball, and ran track. He often talked about his track team winning the state championship on the last event, the mile relay, which he and his teammates placed first. In 1951 he graduated from Princeton University with a bachelors degree and went on to Ohio State University to complete his masters degree. It was his honor to serve his country where he was stationed in Germany. He had a long successful career in advertising. At age 70 he retired from Reece Brothers where he worked in graphic design. Dick loved the Toledo Mud Hens and the circle of friends he had that shared that passion. He never missed a home game, scheduling all events around the Hens The spring training trips were some of his fondest memories. He also loved sharing life with his buddies at McDonalds, Rudys, Capers, and the Elks. Most of all he cherished his children and grandchildren, rarely missing one of their athletic events or any other reason to spend time with them. Dick was proceeded in death by his wife, Joan; son, Rich; and brother; William Ahrendt. He will be dearly missed by his children; Deni Dennis, Dawn Dennis, Laura (Jeff) Goatley; grandchildren, Craig Jr., Chelsea, Cassie Campbell, Jeffery and Megan Goatley. Friends are welcome to celebrate Dicks life at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee on Saturday, February 7, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Helping Hens Fund of the Toledo Community Foundation; 300 Madison Avenue, Suite 1300; Toledo, OH 43604.
