Rex A. Rutledge

Rex A. Rutledge, 66, of Oak Harbor, passed away unexpectedly in the early morning of Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at Mercy-St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo. He was born on May 11, 1952, in Kendallville, IN, to Russell and Sally (Russell) Rutledge. Rex graduated from Oak Harbor High School in 1970 then attended Ohio State University, and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business from the University of Toledo. He worked as a training supervisor at Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station in Oak Harbor for over 30 years, retiring in 2013. Rex was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Oak Harbor. During his retirement Rex volunteered his time and took great pride in helping to manage the B-C-S Food Pantry. He was an avid golfer, who enjoyed playing different courses with his friends and was a long time member of the Oak Harbor Golf Club. Rex enjoyed biking in Cuyahoga Valley National Park with his daughter. He was a fan of the OSU Buckeyes, the Cleveland Indians and the Browns as well as the Cleveland Cavs. At one time Rex was a part owner of the former Oaks Cafe in Oak Harbor. Rex is survived by his daughter, Whitney Rutledge, siblings, Michelle (Marty) Beier, Kevin (Michelle) Rutledge and Jolynn (Pete) Benner, former wife, Ellen St. Clair, many loving nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his dog, Griffin. Rex was preceded in death by his parents, great niece, Mary Beier, and son-in-law to be, Spencer Farris. Visitation for Rex will be Thursday, August 30, 2018, from 5-8 p.m. and Friday, August 31, 2018, from 2-8 p.m. at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 165 E. Water St., Oak Harbor. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastors Dave Voll and Scott Cunningham Saturday, September 1, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul United Church of Christ, 165 N. Toussaint St., Oak Harbor.
