Rev. Richard Mills Sr.

Reverend Richard L. Mills was born on January 9, 1937 to Lee E. Mills and Jennie (Berry) Mills in Ringgold, OH. He met Ruth A. Workman, “the girl he knew he would marry,” in 1954. They later married on August 24, 1957. They had three children, three grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1960-1962. He proudly served one year in Korea as a tank commander.

After his military service, he was employed by LMT Co. of Elyria, then American Finance Corporation as a manager. He accepted the call to ministry and became the pastor of Port Clinton Church of God, where he served for 41 years. He also retired from BCS School Corporation working at Graytown Elementary and Oak Harbor Jr. High.

Richard had a love for music. He began playing guitar and singing at a young age. Later in life, he played in the Spiritual Four Quartet and weekly in church with his wife playing piano by his side. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His sense of humor made him friends wherever he went. He enjoyed watching The Andy Griffith Show, Matlock, and MASH. Richard loved cheering on his favorite Ohio sports teams; The Browns, The Guardians, and The Buckeyes. He liked to spend time reading scripture from one of his many bibles in his office, with his favorite scripture being Hebrews 13:8; Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth, of 65 years, son Richard (Sue) Mills, Jr. of Oak Harbor, OH, daughter Jennifer Mills True of Cicero, IN, grandchildren Justin Dobbelare, Kyle True, and Kourtney (Jacob) Pomasl, great grandchildren Ellie Dobbelare and Adelyn Dobbelare, Sister, Marilyn (William) Baker of Mesa, AZ and many nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Kay Dobbelare, mother and father Lee and Jennie Mills, sister Kathleen Monroe, and brother Robert Mills.

Family and Friends will be received on Saturday, May 13, 2023 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at 12:00 P.M. at Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 165 E. Water St. Oak Harbor, OH.
