Regan Canning Smith, age 56 of Toledo passed away Saturday, March 26, 2016 surrounded by family in St. Lukes Hospital, Maumee. He was born August 5, 1959 in Lima, Ohio to Richard E. and Jean (Canning) Smith. A 1977 graduate of Maumee High School, he was active in athletics, including basketball and golf. He played on the state championship golf team in 1976. He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Toledo where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon. After graduation, he began his career working with his father at TransWorld Shipping where he was currently President. Regan was a long time Toledo Rotarian and a member of the Toledo Yacht Club. His passion was boating and being around the water. Regan loved cruising the Florida intercostal, boating on Lake Erie and visiting the islands. He spent many summers restoring and repairing classic boats where he had many memories with family and friends. Preceded in death by his parents he is survived by his wife Catherine; daughter Lindsay (Joe) Lyden; son Regan James RJ (Casey Boyle) Smith; grandchildren Jackson and Emma Lyden; brother Richard R. (Amy) Smith; sisters-in-law Lisa (Jim) Wheeler, and Patti (Tim) Mikac; brothers-in-law Kevin (Lynn) Casper and Brent (Ami) Casper; and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey) on Wednesday after 2 PM where memorial services will follow at 7 PM. Interment will be private. The family would like to thank the St. Luke’s ICC doctors and nurses for their care of Regan over the past few weeks. The family suggests memorials to The Cherry St. Mission 105 17th.
