Rebecca E. Johnson

Rebecca E Johnson, was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother sister and aunt. She was also a teacher and administrator with a 28 year career with the Toledo Public Schools. She died May 6, 2018 at home in Holland, Ohio, surrounded by her loving family. She was 83. Mrs. Johnson retired from the Toledo School District in 1998. She retired as a principal of Start High School, a position she held for 6 years. She started her career at Jones School on Broadway in 1971, as a special needs teacher. She started her administrative career as head of the Crittendon School for unwed mothers, then Bowsher as an assistant principal in charge of curriculum, then principal at Woodward, moving to Byrnedale as their principal and finally to Start where she finished her career. Rebecca spent most of her retirement years enjoying family activities and her grandchildren, gourmet cooking, being an artist, in addition to world traveling. Mrs. Johnson received her bachelors, masters and specialist degrees from the University of Toledo all while working and raising eight children. She was a 1952 graduate of Notre Dame High School. Rebecca was born on August 17, 1934 in Toledo, Ohio, to Bernard and Margaret Schaller. She was the oldest of five children. Joan Schaller, Bernard Jr. (LeAnn), Harry Schaller (Guyneth), and Emily Galambos (John). She is proceeded in death by her parents, son James and brother Harry. She married Richard Johnson June 6, 1953. Richard and Rebecca had 9 children. She is survived by her husband Richard A Johnson, her children Timothy Johnson (Sharon), Thomas Johnson (Doylene), Cheryl O’Hara (Ricky), Marianne Palmer (Tom Lake), Joseph Johnson (Connie), Barbara Schnapp (Jeff), Jeannie Padgett, Lawrence Johnson (Joyce). Rebecca and Richard were blessed with 32 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren in their 65 years of marriage. Visitation will be held at Walker Funeral Home 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd) from 3:00-9:00 p.m.. Funeral services will begin with prayers at the funeral home on Saturday at 10:15 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church 6149 Hill Ave. Toledo, OH 43615.
