Rebecca Lynn Brookover, 16, passed away on Monday, December 27, 2010 at her home in Sylvania Township after a courageous two-year battle with leukemia. Becca was born October 14, 1994 in Cambridge, Ontario to Stephen and Cynthia Sobotka Brookover. Becca was an honor student at Notre Dame Academy. She was an exceptional student who simply loved the process of learning. Those that knew Becca know she was never alone as long as she had a book in her hands. She was also an avid dancer, loving the art of dance as a testament of her happiness. Despite the perils of being a teenager and the struggles of her illness, Becca never lost her ability to find joy in lifes simplest pleasures. She showed more strength during this time than any would have thought possible from this little girl. Above all else, she stayed true to herself. In addition to her parents, Becca is survived by her brother, Brian, whom she greatly loved and admired; Grandparents Jerry and Sylvia Sobotka of Lorain; aunt Mary Ann Kubicki of Maumee, uncles Chris Sobotka of Lorain, Alan Joy Brookover of Mt. Juliet, TN; Will Shelia Brookover of Willow Spring, NC; John Kendra Brookover of Zanesville, OH; and Phil Pauline Brookover of Cary, NC, as well as cousins Andy Brookover of Franklin, TN, Chris Brookover of Herndon, VA; Jennifer Jesse Clark of Mt. Juliet, TN; Audra Brookover of Huntsville, TX, Andrea Brookover and Adam Brookover of Zanesville, OH; Heather Kent Robertson of Perrysburg, and Mandi Kubicki of Stryker. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Kenneth and Rose Brookover, uncle Charles Brookover, and aunt Mary Ann Brookover. The family would like to extend their thanks to the teams at the Toledo Hospital pediatric HemOnc unit, Rainbow Babies and Childrens Hospital, and Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Thanks also to Notre Dame Academy for their wonderful flexibility in allowing Becca to continue her studies which were so important to her. Special thanks to Mari, Lisa, and Michael at Toledo Ballet; your heart is even greater than your art. A very special thank-you to Beccas dear friends the A-Team, Alex Russell and Anna Studtmann, and their families, for being there throughout this entire difficult journey. Friends are invited to visit with the family at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave., west of Corey Rd. on Thursday, December 30 from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 am Friday, December 31, at Corpus Christi University Parish, 2955 Dorr St. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorial contributions to be made to the Toledo Ballet Becca Brookover Scholarship Fund or to Make-a-Wish of Northwest Ohio.
