Raymond L. Jensen

August 25, 1936 — February 5, 2023

Raymond L. Jensen, 86, of Catawba Island, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Sunday, February 5, 2023. He was born on August 25, 1936 at Fort Snelling, Minnesota, the son of the late John Paul and Vera (Harrison) Jensen.


Ray was the son of an army sergeant, and his family was stationed in Italy and Austria during his early years. He graduated high school in Linz, Austria, and entered the United States Air Force and became a staff sergeant. He was stationed in Great Falls, Montana where he met and married the love of his life, Marlene Berglund.


Ray attended the University of Minnesota and achieved a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. After graduation he worked as a general foreman for General Motors in Flint, Michigan. Ray then was hired by Midland Steel Corporation in Cleveland, Ohio where he became the Vice President of Quality Control and Engineering.


The family resided in North Ridgeville, Ohio for many years. Ray was a school board president and Elder at Christ the King Church in North Olmsted, Ohio.


Ray then became part owner and general manager of Lakefront Marina in Port Clinton, Ohio, until he retired.


Ray and Marlene built their dream home on Catawba Island in 1992. Ray enjoyed playing golf, watching football and reading. His Bible and the Wall Street Journal were a daily routine. He also led two men’s Bible studies for many years. Ray also loved to cook and tell jokes.


Ray helped establish Chapel On The Lake and served as Elder and treasurer for 22 years. Ray and Marlene were foundational in the growth and spiritual maturity of Chapel On The Lake. He was a gifted administrator and teacher. Ray and Marlene were married over 64 years and modeled unity and honor. They ministered together and brought joy to all they touched.


Ray is survived by his loving wife, Marlene: daughter, Terry Ballasch; son, Michael Jensen; brother, Jack Jensen; loving grandchildren, Melissa Ballasch-Studd (Shane), Nathan Jensen (Heather), Hannah Jensen-Larder (Alex), and Bradley Jensen; and great-granddaughter, Lilian Rae.


Per Ray’s wishes, cremation has taken place.


A celebration of life gathering will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel on the Lake, 145 S. Bridge Rd., Lakeside-Marblehead, OH with a fellowship meal to follow.
