Raymond Hohl

Raymond Bruce Hohl Bruce Hohl, age 89, passed away at home on Tuesday, June 21, 2011. Born August 6, 1921 in Newark, OH, he was the eldest son of the late Raymond Ralph and Esther Graef Hohl. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jay and Don. Bruce graduated from St. Francis de Sales HS, Newark, OH; Newark College of Commerce; and The Ohio State University, obtaining a BS in Business Administration. During WWII he served in the South Pacific in the Army Medical ATC. Upon discharge, he went to work for Owens-Corning Fiberglas, retiring after 38 years. Bruce was very active at Gesu Church where he served on many committees during his 43 years as a parishioner, which included his love for gardening. Most recently he served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. Bruce loved the beauties of nature such as spring wild flowers, running country streams and fall color. He also spent 15 years as a Boy Scout leader. On September 20, 1949, Bruce married E. Jean Finley, an RN from Mt. Carmel School of Nursing, Columbus, OH. Their marriage was blessed with five children: Robert Susan of Washington DC, James Vickie, Thomas Xiao Hui, Carolyn Suzy Gary of Peachtree City, GA, and William; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. One sister, Jeannette Anderson, also survives. Bruces funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 26, 2011 in Gesu Church, 2049 Parkside Blvd., followed by military rites. A luncheon and gathering will immediately follow in Loyola Hall of Gesu School. Private entombment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery. Friends and family may visit the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. on Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m.; and on Saturday morning for one hour prior to Mass in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gesu Church or the Nature Conservancy http://my.nature.org/donate/honor-giving.html.
