Raymond Frank Corbo, 93, of Maumee, Ohio passed away peacefully on June 18, 2016 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Ray was born in Riverview, Michigan on May 5, 1923 to Flora (Collins) and Daniel Corbo. He moved to Maumee, Ohio at the age of 5 where he remained his entire life and, along with his brother Edward, was raised by their Grandmother, Leona Collins. He graduated from Maumee High School and continued on to graduate Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Detroit. Raymond married his beloved Mary on July 17, 1948. Ray became a Certified Public Accountant and started a private practice in downtown Maumee where he served the community for fifteen years. In 1968 he began his long and successful career as a stock broker. He worked for the Ohio Company for over twenty years and retired at the age of 78 from Merrill Lynch as a Vice President. Ray enjoyed the company of great friends and family and especially treasured his time with them golfing and playing poker. His love of life and sense of humor were in evidence to the end. He was an active member of the Catholic War Veterans Post 639 and it was there that he and his wife Mary met lifelong friends. He was also a member of the Rotary Club of Maumee, where he was a past treasurer and served as president in 1990-91. He served in World War II in the Army Air Force and was stationed in England. Ray is survived by his children, Daniel (Beth), John (Patty), Elizabeth (Dick) Witter, Michael (Diana), and his daughter Carolyn who served as his kind caregiver during his final years. Ray was a loving grandfather to Sam and Sadie (Brian) Puffer; Lindsay (John) Cadigan, Kelly, Charlie and Andy Corbo; Jim (Britton) Witter, Michael, John and Patrick Witter; Grace, Emily and Dan Corbo along with great grandfather to Ethan and Natalie Witter. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Gilmartin Corbo. Ray’s family wishes to thank his many friends and neighbors of Maumee, who enriched his life with love and laughter. Ray cherished the relationships that he was blessed with during his wonderful life. Visitation will be held at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a Scripture Service at 7:00 PM. Prayers will begin at the funeral home on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at 10:00 AM followed by the funeral service at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 104 Broadway Street, Maumee, at 10:30 AM. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Maumee. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to St. Joseph Catholic Capital Improvement Fund, 104 West Broadway, Maumee, Ohio 43537 or to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 East River Road, Perrysburg, Ohio 43551.
