Ray F. Swope, 73, of Oak Harbor, died Friday morning, August 21, 2009, in his home. Ray was born March 23, 1936, in Oak Harbor, Ohio, to Forest J. and Ethal D. Amsler Swope. He was a graduate of Clay High School, and on May 2, 1989, in Lagrange, Indiana, he married Carol I. Fitz, who survives. Ray loved to farm and worked the family farm all his life but also worked as a warehouseman 33 years at Standard Products. He was a member of Oak Harbor United Methodist Church and the Farmers Union. Ray was an avid reader as well. In addition to his, wife, Carol, Ray is survived by his children, Randall Deb Swope of Whitehouse, Monica Swope of Gibsonburg, Richard Swope and Ryan Andrea Swope both of Oak Harbor, his stepson Edward Karen Bennett, Jr. of Marblehead, five grandchildren, five step grandchildren, and four step-great grandchildren, and brother, Ron Beverly Swope of Oak Harbor. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be Monday, August 24, 2009, from 2-8 p.m., with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m., in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Oak Harbor. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 25, 2009, in the funeral home with interment to follow in Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor. Memorials for Ray may be given to the Oak Harbor United Methodist Church, Carroll Township EMS, or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
