REEDER, Rawls M. “Mel” Rawls M. “Mel” Reeder, 90, of Oregon, OH, passed away on August 20, 2015 at St. Clare Commons in Perrysburg. He was born October 5, 1924 to Rawls and Maude (Brown) Reeder in Broseley, Missouri. Mel honorably served his country during WWII, he was a submarine serviceman for 20 years for the United States Navy serving on 8 different submarines throughout his military career. He later worked at Toledo Trust and the Toledo Museum of Art. He was member of the Fleet Reserves, Submarine Veterans of WWII, Holland Club, a Life Member of the VFW and American Legion, past Grand Chaplain of UCT for Ohio, member of GBU and a volunteer at St. Charles Hospital. Mel was also a devoted member of St. Ignatius Parish. Mel loved cooking, playing cards, traveling the world and spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid gardener and was very proud of his prized tomatoes. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother. Left to cherish Mel’s memory is his loving wife of 70 years, Ruth; children, Ronald D. Reeder Sr., Sharon Lee (Ronald) Witt; 5 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren On Monday, August 24, 2015 Mel will lie in state at St. Ignatius Church, 212 N. Stadium Drive, Oregon, OH 43616 from 11 am until the start of Mass at 12. Interment will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery. Hoeflingerfuneralhome.com
