Ralph C. Zunk, 84, of Oak Harbor, OH, died Sunday, July 19, 2009 in Magruder Hospital, Port Clinton, OH. Ralph was born in Curtice, OH on April 15, 1925 to Otto R. and Elsie E. Sievert Zunk. He married Marjorie C. Schultz in Oak Harbor on July 8, 1947. Ralph delivered gas and fuel oil to homes and farms from 1962 until his retirement in 1987. He had also worked for the Rossford Ordinance Depot from 1947-1962. Ralph was a U.S. Veteran serving in the Army Air Force during WWII from 1943-1945. He was a life member of the VFW Post #8732 and American Legion Post #114, both in Oak Harbor. He took great care of the VFW hall and tended bar for both organizations. He was very handy and helped to build the Am. Legion fish frying trailer still used today throughout the area. His wife and he both spent many hours volunteering in the trailer at the Sandusky and Ottawa County Fairs over the years. Ralph could often be found pulling a veterans float in many local parades. For many years Ralph transported the horse drawn hearse of the Robinson-Walker Funeral Homes to and from parades and the Amish country for restoration and maintenance. Ralph and his wife were longtime members of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Oak Harbor. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Marjorie, daughter, Joanne M. Brett Blevins, of Port Clinton, granddaughters, Danielle Ross Zunk-Gillespie, Worthington, OH, Cassie Zunk, Fremont, daughter-in-law, Tammy L. Zunk, Fremont, and sister, Dorothy Banky of Oak Harbor. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents and son Tommy M. Zunk. Funeral services for Ralph will be conducted at 10:30 AM, on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home, Oak Harbor, OH. Interment will follow, with full military honors, in the Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor. Visitation will be conducted in the funeral home from 4-8 pm, Tuesday, July 21, 2009, with a military service at 7 pm also in the funeral home. It is suggested memorials be made to the family.
