Ralph W. DeLong age 70 of Perrysburg, OH passed away peacefully on Saturday August 11, 2012 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, surrounded by his family and friends. Ralph was born in Perrysburg, OH on March 18, 1942 to Emery and Maggie L. Keffer DeLong. Ralph was a 1960 graduate of Maumee High School where he played football and drums. He was employed as an Inspector at General Motors, Toledo Hydromatic for 35 years retiring in 2000. He earned his Associates Degree in business from Owens College and attended The University of Toledo. Ralph was a Vietnam Era veteran in the Marine Corp from 1960 to 1964. In 1962, he served with the Marine Corps forces that participated in the Cuban Missile Crisis Blockade. He was a former member of the American Legion, Toledo and Maumee Eagles. While raising his two children, he often coached multiple sports/youth activities through the schools and the YMCA. Ralph was an avid Ohio State and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He enjoyed reading, word search puzzles, history, playing solitaire and spending time with his family. Ralph is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Linda Szalkay DeLong; son, Gregory K. DeLong and daughter, Gwenn K. Hasenfratz; grandchildren, Braeden, Molly, Grace, Chloe and Cole DeLong, Trent Hasenfratz and Marcella Hayes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Gloria DeLong; and his faithful canine companion, Pepper who will be buried with him. A memorial service for Ralph will be Wednesday August 15, 2012 at 11:00 am at Nazareth Hall 21211 West River Rd. Grand Rapids, OH.
