Priscilla Anne Bell (75) passed away Feb. 4, 2025 at the Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo, OH, after a long battle with ovarian cancer. Her friends and family were awed to witness her strength as she outlived a six-month diagnosis by nearly eight years. Family members surrounded her with love in her final moments.
Born on Oct. 13, 1949 in Pontiac, MI, Priscilla grew up in Maumee and Toledo, OH, and graduated from Maumee Senior High School in 1967. She started her college career studying nursing at Capital University and completed her RN/BSN at University of Cincinnati in 1973.
She worked at ProMedica Toledo Hospital before moving to Chicago, IL. She spent over 40 years as an oncology nurse, training and leading generations of new nurses while also caring for thousands of patients at RUSH University Medical Center, HCA HealthONE Presbyterian, St. Luke’s Hospital, and the Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
She was also known for her love of travel, and in her retirement years she enjoyed several trips to Europe and around the U.S., especially with her nieces and nephews. She spent her final years caring for her mother and then herself, while often visiting cousins and siblings in the Toledo area. In her free time she enjoyed reading, art, and cooking.
Priscilla is survived by her siblings Stephen Bell (Pat Bell) of the Villages, FL, Laurie Bell (Charlie Saylor) of Bluffton, OH, Kevin Bell of Ypsilanti, MI, Amy Hering (Jim Hering) of Sylvania, OH, nieces Maggie Patrick (Martin Patrick) of Atlanta, GA, and L. Kathleen Saylor of Bluffton, OH, and nephews Paul Bell (Elizabeth Bell) of Jacksonville, FL, and Mitchell Hering of Charlotte, NC, as well as several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents Dr. Paul L. Bell and Patricia A. Bell, Dr. Alvin E. and Nola Jean Bell (paternal grandparents), Lester and Marie Fought (maternal grandparents) as well as many paternal and maternal aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Gifts in memory of Priscilla can be sent to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Northwest Ohio. The family is especially grateful for stories from friends, co-workers, and patients during her nursing career. Tributes can be posted online at Walker Funeral Home of Sylvania, OH. A private memorial service will follow sometime this summer.
