Phyllis V. Rier, age 91, formerly of West Toledo passed away Sunday March 1, 2009 at Kingston Care Center of Perrysburg. The daughter of Fredrick and Elsie Slagle, she was born Jan. 4, 1918 in Toledo. Phyllis graduated from Scott High School with honors and later attended the University of Toledo. She was a member of the Ottawa Plains Garden Club, where she had served as an officer, the Child Conservation League, and Toledo Yacht Club. She traveled extensively, but especially loved to travel the Great Lakes with her husband in their cruiser, Sea Gypsy. Phyllis had an appreciation for music and was blessed with a beautiful voice. She loved hosting parties and entertaining family and friends. She lived a full and good life and her door was always open. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Norman; daughter, Suzanne Ted Hahn; grandchildren, Sean Christy Gilley of Broadview Heights, OH, Julie Brian Visser of Rossford, OH; great grandchildren, Hannah and Colin Gilley, Oliver and Teaghan Visser; sister in law, Mary OShea Wight; and nephews, Thomas Lisa Slagle of Houston, TX and Robert Laura Slagle M.D. of Dallas, TX Friends may visit the family on Tuesday from 2-9 PM at the Walker Funeral Home 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. Mass of the Resurrection will be held Wednesday at 10:00 AM at Corpus Christi University Parish. Interment will follow at Fort Meigs Cemetery.
