Phyllis Gene Knopp

Phyllis Gene Knopp, 88, of Toledo, passed peacefully into our Lord’s arms on Sunday morning, August 9, 2015, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo. Phyllis was born November 12, 1926, in Toledo to Esten H. and Marguerite P. (Trondle) Slates. She held a variety of jobs over the years tirelessly supporting her family. In 1989 she retired from Champion Spark Plug having worked there for 19 years. Phyllis had a strong faith in Jesus Christ, whose love and promise of eternal life she instilled into her children. Most recently, she was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Toledo. In her younger years, she was a long-standing member of Christ Lutheran Church in North Toledo, where she actively pursued the Lord’s work. Phyllis loved family gatherings and spending time with her immediate and extended family. Her many pastimes included knitting and crocheting, playing all kinds of card games, baking cookies and tending to her garden and flowers; and she loved to sing at holidays and whenever the spirit moved her. She reveled in her daily routine of going to the YMCA for exercise and swimming, where she met many new and dear friends. Phyllis is survived by her children, Carol Lynn (Dimitri) Kadigurani, Linda Gene Martz, Franklin Jerry (Kris) Martz, Melody Anne (John) D’Anniballe and Lisa Beth (Mike) McQueary; nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren; sisters, Alice Szabo and Marjorie Laytart and brother, Charles Slates and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, John Frederick Martz, sister, Lois Bower, and brothers, Allen Slates and Fred Slates. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Friday, August 14, 2015, at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home, 501 West St., Genoa. The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 15, 2015, in the funeral home, followed by a luncheon. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorials for Phyllis go to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Rd., Perrysburg, OH 43551, in gratitude for their care in her final days.
