Phyllis Jean Catlan Davis passed away comfortably and surrounded by her family on March 26, 2021 at Swan Creek Retirement Village in Toledo, 6 weeks before her 98th birthday. She was the daughter of Thomas Anthony Catlan and Mary Jane McClellan Catlan, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Curtis W. Davis, Jr., her sister, Evalyn Catlan Norris and grandson, David Schroeder. Phyllis was born in Delaware, Ohio on May 6, 1923. She moved with her family to Toledo, Ohio in 1929 where she attended McKinley Grade School and graduated from T.A. DeVilbiss High School 1941. Phyllis was elected DeVilbiss Night Relay Queen in 1940 and 1941. She attended and graduated from The University of Toledo in 1945 with a bachelor’s degree in education. While in college, Phyllis was an active member of campus life. She was a member of Psi Chi Phi sorority and was the first president of Phi Alpha chapter of Delta Delta Delta sorority after Psi Chi Phi went national. She was elected May Queen at The University of Toledo in 1942. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi educational honorary, and Mortar Board. After graduation she taught Physical Education at the University of Toledo from 1945 to 1948. She married Curtis Woodward Davis, Jr. on June 1, 1946. Phyllis was active in the community and most importantly a much-loved full-time mom to her children, Marsha, Curt, Craig, and Stuart. She was their greatest fan and cheering squad. She also was the world's greatest Mimi to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Phyllis continued to be an active alumnae member of Delta Delta Delta sorority, lifetime member of University of Toledo Alumna Association, Inverness Club and the Toledo Club, American Legion Post 335, Toledo Botanical Gardens, Toledo Symphony, Toledo Museum of Art, Toledo Zoo and Wildwood Metro Park. An avid tennis player, she was a long-time member of Shadow Valley and Laurel Hills Tennis Club She is survived by her 4 children, Marsha (Joseph) Blunk, Curtis (Donna) Davis, III, Craig (Pam Kravetz) Davis, and Stuart (Christy) Davis; 9 grandchildren, Amy Hunter, Sarah (Jason) Chumley, Kelly (Jeff) Power, Andrea Davis (fiancé Josue Lopez), Erin (Jamie McCallum) Davis, Jill (Patrick) Marquardt, Max (Holden Simon) Wildenhaus, Jennifer (Sarah) Sturges, Libby Davis; 11 great grandchildren; and 7 nieces and nephews. A celebration of Phyllis's life will be held at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 30, 2021 in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.), Toledo, where her family will receive guests beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
