Phyllis Jean Conroy

Phyllis J. Conroy, age 86, of Toledo, Ohio passed away surrounded by her family on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at The Henderson House. She had battled dementia for the last several years. Phyllis was born to Walter and Esther Scharer Wendel in Toledo, Ohio on February 7, 1927. She was a graduate of Woodward High School, Bowling Green State University and The University of Toledo where she received her Masters Degree in Education. Phyllis loved her career as an educator and was a teacher in Sylvania Public Schools for 23 years. She taught Fourth and Fifth grade at Stranahan Elementary before retiring in 1989. Phyllis was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority and a long time member of Christ Presbyterian Church. She loved spending time with her family and was a loving, generous person to all she met. Phyllis enjoyed traveling, sports and especially tennis. She is survived by her son, Robert Deborah Conroy Jr.; daughter, Patricia Cary Weaver; grandsons, Patrick Katie Conroy; Kevin Leigh-Anne Conroy; Craig, Chad and Christopher Weaver; great-granddaughter, Kyleigh Conroy; sister, Esther James Suszka; several special nieces and nephews; and longtime special friend, B.J. Searles. Phyllis was preceded in death by sisters, Virginia and Helen; former husband, Robert and son, James. Phyllis family would like to thank the staffs of the Visiting Angels, The Henderson House and Heartland Hospice for their loving care and support. Friends may gather at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. Toledo, Ohio just West of Corey Road on Saturday, December 7, 2013 from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Christ Presbyterian Church, 4225 Sylvania Ave. Toledo, Ohio 43623.
