Phillip A. Eding, 90, a longtime Maumee resident passed away peacefully in his sleep early Thursday morning. Phil was born in Toledo to Burel and Hildegard Eding, the second of 8 children. He graduated from Scott High School. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Phil married the first love of his life; Lois Marie Hoedt in 1955. They raised their 2 children Ellen and John in Maumee. Lois preceded him at a young age in 1983. In 1989 he was blessed to marry a second time to Mary Jane Hoag Eding. They were blessed with 28 years of marriage. Phil’s career with the US Post Office started after his return from the Army. He was a window clerk at several Toledo Post office locations. He retired in 1983, and was proud to have beat the system and was retired for 7 years longer than he worked. Phil is survived by his wife Mary Jane, his Children Ellen (Eddie) Ledesma of Stryker, and John (Debbie) Eding of Maumee, and Mary Jane’s Children Don (Elaine) Abel of Maumee and Mary Beth (Bill Gower) Abel of Monclova. He was very proud of his Grandchildren, Tobiah (Kimberly) Ledesma, Julian ( Kelsey) Ledesma, Sarah (Shawn McCarty) Ledsema, Ilyana Martens, Ashley Hanicq , Mariah Hanicq, Jessica (Justin) Fisher, Garrett (Crystal Wagener) Abel, Asa Abel and Marna Abel. Phil was very active in raising his first Great Granddaughter Ariel Logan, she was very close to him and they had a very special relationship her entire life. Phil and Mary Jane were blessed with 12 more Great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson. Phil is also survived by his Sisters Janice Ash, June Eding and Patricia Heider and his brother Duke (Deb) Eding and was “Uncle Phil” to many, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents; Brothers Jack and Lee, and Sister Barbara Smith, infant son Carl and his first wife Lois. A very gentle quiet man who was very honest in all aspects of his life. Phil was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Maumee, a life time member of the Maumee VFW, and the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed fishing, nature, and spending time with his family including a regular Thursday lunch with his siblings and other family members for over 30 years. Family and friends will be received at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St., Maumee on Sunday, April 22, 2018 from 3:00-7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Pauls Lutheran Church 112 E. Wayne St., Maumee. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
