Phillip T. Black, age 86, of Toledo, died January 15, 2024, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo. He was born September 28, 1937, in Erie, Pennsylvania.
Strongly patriotic his entire life, he entered the United States Army serving for more than 20 years, including during the Vietnam War. Upon retirement from the Army, Phil worked at the Lima Tank Plant for 19 years before earning his CDL and drove trucks for several area companies. In his free time, he enjoyed watching football, especially the “O-H 10” Buckeyes. He was a lifetime member of the Northwood VFW and Maumee American Legion Posts. He enjoyed his Saturday morning breakfasts with his Bob Evans veterans’ group. Phil worshipped at Monclova Road Baptist Church where he was a member. He also liked to ride his Harley (he was a member of the HOGS), go camping and boating, and visit the casino from time to time. Family oriented and devoted to his wife, Jackie, the couple regularly went dancing and always enjoyed their time together. Phil was also an animal lover and will be fondly remembered for his keen sense of humor and strength of character, always upholding a sense of honor.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Linda LaPlante (Wayne); granddaughters whom he raised as daughters, Patsy Grant and Tammie Kerr; stepchildren, Lola Guillermo (James Clark), Miriam Miller, Kenny Scott, Caroline Nagel (James), and Donald Kerr (Dusti); numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and siblings.
He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jackie in 2023; parents, Doris and Clyde Reinhardt; children, Denise Lumley and Jeanie Thimming; stepdaughter, Tammie Grant; and brother, Robert Reinhardt.
Family and friends are invited to visit from 4-7 p.m., Thursday January 18, 2024, in the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, OH 43537, where funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 19, 2024. Interment with military honors by the United States Army will be held at Highland Memory Gardens, Waterville.
